Nearly 300 fresh cases, 2 more deaths in 24 hours; total active cases past 4300

West Bengal reported 60 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday since Tuesday, bringing the total of the state’s active cases to 432.

On Tuesday, a seven month-old in a private hospital in Bengal tested positive. The child’s mother is also symptomatic and is awaiting her test results.

An 82-year-old woman tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday at the Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmour district.

Sources said the woman, who already has age-related complications, is a resident of Sarahan in Sirmour, and came to the hospital with COVID-19 symptoms.

Dr Amitabh Jain, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Sirmaur, said the woman tested positive through a rapid antigen test, and her sample will be sent to Mandi for genome sequencing to identify the variant.

Dr Jain said following the positive test, the block medical officer (BMO) was instructed to trace and test all individuals who came in contact with the woman. Read

West Bengal reported 60 new cases of COVID-19, according to official data.

These cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as per data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

During the same period, 28 people recovered from the disease, it said.

There are 432 active cases in the state at present, it added.

The toll remained at one, the data showed. (PTI)

Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday reported its first COVID case of the latest surge in Nahan in Sirmaur district, according to the health department.

An 82-year-old woman came to Nahan Medical College and Hospital Tuesday morning with a complaint of cold and cough and was found to be positive for COVID in a rapid test, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Amitabh Jain said.

Doctors advised the woman to get admitted, but she refused and returned home with medicines, he said.

"Her sample will be sent for genome sequencing to know the variant of the coronavirus," the CMO said. He said the block medical officer has been directed to test everyone who came in contact with the woman. (PTI)

A total of 86 new coronavirus positive cases were detected in Maharashtra on Tuesday, taking the number of infections since January 1 this year to 959, the health department said.

Of these patients, 435 have recovered so far, while active cases are 510.

Four patients have died in the state since Monday with Nagpur reporting two deaths, while Chandrapur and Miraj recorded one fatality each, it said.

In view of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala, the state health department issued guidelines to hospitals and health workers. It has also directed the government and private hospitals to conduct mock drills.

The Kerala health department will provide a Google Form for conducting an online mock drill.

The health department instructed the hospitals to follow the revised ABC Guidelines 03, issued in June 2023, while treating patients with COVID-19 and influenza symptoms.

The total number of active Covid-19 cases in India currently stands at 4302, according to the daily data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. India recorded nearly 300 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, with the highest number of cases being reported from Kerala.

Gujarat has recorded 108 new coronavirus positive cases and one death, the state health department said on Tuesday.

These cases were registered in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of active infections to 461, it said in a release.

One patient succumbed to the infection in this fresh wave, it said.

Of the total 461 active patients, 20 are hospitalised, while 441 others are receiving treatment in home isolation, it said, adding that 43 patients have also been discharged following recovery.

All the cases which are emerging in Gujarat are of the Omicron LF.7.9 and XFG Recombinant sub-variant, which causes mild fever and cough, the release said.--PTI

With six new cases and five recoveries, the number of active cases in Gurgaon, Haryana, has reached 17. The cumulative number of cases detected in Haryana this year has reached 34.

In Faridabad, 5 new cases were detected, bringing the active case count to 12. The cumulative case count for this year has reached 26.

Of the 12,011 samples collected from Maharashtra this year, 873 tested positive for Covid-19. Of these 100 were from Pune, while close to 500 were from Mumbai. 369 persons have already recovered.

Eleven of the 16 new Covid cases that Haryana reported on Tuesday were from Gurugram and Faridabad districts, officials said.

According to the state health department, Gurugram and Faridabad reported six and five cases, respectively. Karnal and Jhajjar districts reported two cases each, while one case was from Ambala.

The total number of active cases in the state on Tuesday was 51 as against 44 on Monday. --PTI

West Bengal reported 41 fresh Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, as per news agency PTI.

Kolkata reported the state's first Covid-related death of this year -- a 43-year old patient who had other comorbidities.

As per reports, the four variants that authorities have found are subvariants of Omicron --- LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB. 1.8.1.

The first three have been found in more number of cases.

A 53-year-old man in Gwalior tested positive for Covid-19 after he returned from Mumbai and isolated at his home, an official said on Tuesday.

Health officials received information about a Covid-19 case on Monday evening, said Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Sachin Srivastava. --PTI

A 43-year-old woman from Alipore, Kolkata, who had been on ventilator support at a private hospital for a week, succumbed to Covid-19. According to hospital sources, she was also suffering from Acute Coronary Syndrome, septic shock, and acute kidney injury.

Official sources on May 31 stated that the COVID-19 situation in India is being closely monitored while stressing that the severity of infections is low, with most of the patients being under home care and that there was no cause for worry.

Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr Rajiv Behl on Monday stated that genome sequencing of samples in West and South have shown that the variants leading to the current rise in cases are not severe and are sub variants of Omicron only.

Fourteen of the 18 fresh Covid cases that Haryana reported on Monday were from Gurugram, Faridabad and Karnal districts, officials said.

According to the state health department, Gurugram and Karnal reported five cases, followed by Faridabad (four), Ambala (two) and one each from Jhajjar and Sonipat.

The total number of active cases in the state on Monday was 44, of which 16 were from Gurugram, 10 from Faridabad, nine from Karnal, four from Panchkula, two from Ambala and one each from Sonipat, Jhajjar and Hisar.

As of Monday, no patients were hospitalised.

Presently, Kerala has 1,446 active cases, the highest in the country followed by Maharashtra with 494, Gujarat with 397 and Delhi with 393 cases.

Five deaths ---one each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and two deaths in Maharashtra -- have been reported in the last 24 hours, according to the data.

Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary for Health, Medical, and Family Welfare, MT Krishna Babu, on Monday said that 38 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state over the past three weeks. He confirmed that no new variant has been detected so far

Currently, there are 4026 active Covid-19 cases in India, with the largest number of cases reported from Kerala. Five infection-related deaths have been reported this year so far, according to the Ministry of Health.
