The Union government approved a special project under PMAY-G to provide housing assistance to victims of fire in Mulwarwan village in the Warwan Valley of J&K’s Kishtwar district.

On October 15 last year, several houses were destroyed in a massive blaze, leaving many families homeless. “Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who assumed office on October 16, promptly visited the affected area the following day and assured the victims of long-term rehabilitation.”

“He also pledged to secure assistance from the Central government to help the families rebuild their homes and restore their lives,” an official spokesperson said.

According to an official statement, the approval for this special housing package follows CM’s appeal to the Centre, requesting additional financial assistance for the long-term rehabilitation of the affected families.

The CM emphasised the urgency of housing aid under PMAY-G to help the affected families.

The Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Rural Development (Rural Housing Division), formally communicated this approval to Secretary of J&K’s Department of Rural Development. As per the communication, up to 85 houses (including 7 earlier PMAY-G beneficiaries) have been allocated under special project for FY 2024-25.
