BJP keeping J&K issue alive for electoral gains, says Mehbooba Mufti

“If the issue of Jammu and Kashmir suits the leadership and army of Pakistan, it somehow comes handy to BJP also in creating a Hindu-Muslim divide...,” she said while addressing party leaders at the PDP office here.

Former J&K CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that BJP wanted to keep the problem of Jammu and Kashmir alive to strengthen its vote bank across the country.

“If the issue of Jammu and Kashmir suits the leadership and army of Pakistan, it somehow comes handy to BJP also in creating a Hindu-Muslim divide…,” she said while addressing party leaders at the PDP office here.

“That is why they took away the protection available to all of you in 2019,’’ she said. “They know that they have not solved any problem by abrogating Article 370… today when even a leaf moves in Jammu and Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah has to convene a meeting in Delhi. This had never happened earlier,” she said.

She said “they know that the people are not happy and that the simmering discontent can erupt into a volcano anytime”. She called for a resolution of J&K issue in larger interest of peace, adding that the problem cannot be solved till people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh come on “one page’’.
