Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore has been booked in connection with a social media post about the incident of a man urinating on a tribal in Madhya Pradesh.
The FIR was lodged by BJP worker Suraj Khare at Habibganj police station in Bhopal, alleging that Rathore had targeted the RSS through her social media post. The FIR has been lodged under IPC section 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc).
Afterwards, Rathore posted a message on Twitter: “In Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, a BJP leader urinated on the head of a tribal man. An FIR has been lodged against me by the media in-charge of BJP’s Scheduled Caste Morcha for criticising this incident. Amazing is their love for tribals.”
Rathore had shared a caricature depicting a half-naked man, presumably the accused, urinating on another man. The man who was shown urinating was wearing a white shirt, a black cap and his khaki shorts were lying on the floor. She captioned the post: ‘MP mein ka ba?’
After sharing the post, Rathore wrote: “Some people call me an agent of the Congress, some of the SP, and some of the AAP. Whichever party is in opposition in every state, I am with it. When the opposition party comes to power, they will find me opposing them. Whichever party is in opposition at the Centre, I am with it. Governments will change, but I will remain in the opposition. A folk artist should question the government by being on the side of the public. This is his religion. I am with my religion. I am with democracy.”
In February this year, Rathore was served a notice over her song ‘UP mein ka ba’, which criticised the Uttar Pradesh government over the death of a mother-daughter duo in Kanpur Dehat during an eviction drive.
The accused in the Madhya Pradesh incident, Pravesh Shukla (30), has been arrested and slapped with the stringent National Security Act. With the Congress pointing to his alleged links with the BJP, the party had come under pressure over the incident. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the tribal man and washed his feet.
