State-of-the-art monument-cum-Bhagwan Valmiki temple was inaugurated at the Amritsar Sri Valmiki Tirath Sthal (Ram Tirath) with installation of the Valmiki idol on Thursday. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and state BJP president and Union minister Vijay Sampla addressed a rally to mark the occasion for which the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal had mobilised Dalits across the state.
Though massive crowd reached for the occasion, not many attended the rally. The CM also reached late at rally as organisers were taking time pushing crowd into the rally venue which was held behind the under-construction museum and panorama on the life of Bhagwan Valmiki.
Valmiki community religious guru Darshan Ratan Ravana and Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Dhuma also addressed the gathering. Both showered praises on the CM for construction of memorials across the state.
In his speech, the CM said, “Valmiki Tirath Sthal (Ram Tirath) was a humble tribute by the state government to Bhagwan Valmikiji, who had preached the message of equality and universal brotherhood on this sacred land. Bhagwan Valmikiji Maharaj was the ‘Pitaamah’ of Sanskrit language and first poet or the Adi Kavi of the world who by his immortal and masterpiece composition the ‘Ramayana’ propagated the message of victory of good over evil.”
Earlier, in his address, the deputy CM said that under the “able guidance” of the CM, memorials belonging to all religions and sects had been constructed, citing examples of Guru Ravidass ji memorial at Khuralgarh in Hoshiarpur, Virasat-E-Khalsa, Vadda and Chhota Ghallugara memorials, Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur yaadgaar and the Plaza around Sri Darbar Sahib.
