A day after PM Narendra Modi took stock of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah too reviewed the security scenario in the Union Territory in the wake of recent terrorist attacks.
Shah has also scheduled a high-level meeting on Sunday with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and senior officials from the Army and CRPF, to assess the current scenario in the Union Territory and evaluate measures to curb terror activities.
During the meeting, the Home minister will assess the readiness of the security grid for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on June 29.
Sources said, on Friday, senior security and Home ministry officials briefed Shah on the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the measures implemented following the recent spate of terror attacks.
During Thursday’s meeting chaired by the PM, senior officials were directed to ensure the “deployment of the full spectrum” of “counter-terror capabilities”.
The Prime Minister, sources said, spoke to Shah and discussed counter-terror operations and the deployment of security forces.
He also took stock of the security situation from L-G Sinha. NSA Ajit Doval and other senior officials were present at the meeting, sources said.
The Prime Minister, sources said, was given an overview of the security-related situation in J&K and was apprised of the counter-terror efforts being undertaken in the region.
Last Sunday, nine pilgrims were killed and 33 injured when a bus was attacked in Reasi.
Since Tuesday, a CRPF jawan and two militants have been killed and seven security personnel injured in three separate encounters in Doda and Kathua districts.
