Shillong will host the Adventure Tourism Meet (ATM) 2024 on Friday (October 4), organised by Indian Express Online in collaboration with Meghalaya Tourism.

This daylong event, which will take place at the State Convention Centre, aims to bring together tourism leaders, adventure enthusiasts, and industry stakeholders to discuss the potential of adventure tourism in India, particularly in Meghalaya.

The meet will feature prominent speakers, including Meghalaya Minister of Tourism Bah Paul Lyngdoh, Odisha deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, and Meghalaya Commissioner and Secretary (tourism) Dr Vijay Kumar D.

The panelists will discuss the role of adventure tourism as a driver of economic growth, particularly in rural and lesser-known regions. Experts will deliberate over the strategic involvement of state governments in developing essential infrastructure and policies to foster this sector.

The event will cast the spotlight on Meghalaya’s vast, untapped potential for adventure tourism, showcasing its unique offerings. A special fireside chat will highlight the contributions of women in the industry, featuring adventurers such as certified caver Shelley Diengdoh and Wansuk Myrthong, the first woman from Meghalaya to scale Mount Everest.

The discussions will also explore emerging trends and the future of adventure tourism in India. Attendees can look forward to special presentations, including a deep dive into Meghalaya’s mystical caves by renowned expert Brian Kharpran Daly, and an inspiring address by Mandip Singh Soin FRGS, Founder and Managing Director of Ibex Expeditions, who will share his adventures and advocate for responsible tourism practices.

Workshops focused on responsible tourism and safety guidelines will also be held, complemented by cultural performances celebrating Meghalaya’s heritage. The event is also supported by Incredible India, Odisha Tourism, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, Bodoland Tourism and Uttar Pradesh Tourism.
