    On Durgapur rape case, CM Mamata Banerjee says women boarders shouldn't 'venture out after dark'

    Amid an uproar over the Durgapur hostel gang-rape case, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that women boarders, especially those from outside the state, should follow hostel rules and not venture out late at night. A private medical college student in Durgapur, hailing from Odisha, was allegedly gang-raped on Friday night when she went out with a friend for dinner. She said while students had a "fundamental right" to go wherever they want, police officers "cannot stand guard outside every home”. Read more

    Afghanistan says it killed 58 Pak soldiers after border clash

    Afghanistan said that its forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during overnight operations along the border, citing recurring violations of Afghan territory and airspace. It has also claimed that Afghan forces captured 25 Pakistani army posts, and left 30 soldiers wounded. Earlier, Afghan authorities had accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and a market in eastern Afghanistan. Read more

    China hits back over fresh US tariffs

    Responding to United States President Donald Trump's announcement of an additional 100 per cent tariff on Chinese imports, Beijing said it would not back down and added that its stance is "consistent". “We do not want a tariff war, but we are not afraid of one.” On Friday, Trump announced a fresh round of trade measures targeting China, including plans to impose an additional 100 per cent tariff on all Chinese imports and bring in stringent export controls on US-made critical software beginning November 1.     As conversations surrounding stress management dominate social media, a clip has resurfaced on social media, in which Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is seen sharing his personal approach to take on workplace burnout. “Stress primarily comes from not taking action over something that you can have some control over,” Bezos had said in a speech from 2001. Further, he termed stress as a warning signal rather than an inevitable byproduct of demanding work. Bezos reportedly made these remarks at the Academy of Achievement Summit in San Antonio.     Academy Award-winning US actor Diane Keaton died at the age of 79 on Saturday. Keaton, renowned for her endearing performance as Woody Allen's eccentric, insecure girlfriend in the 1977 romantic comedy Annie Hall, had appeared in more than 60 films, including The Godfather trilogy, The First Wives Club and eight films with Woody Allen.
