Tamil Nadu’s Prabanjan J and Andhra Pradesh’s Bora Varun Chakravarthi have topped the NEET-UG this year scoring 99.99 percentile scores, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday. A total of 20.38 lakh registered for the exam of which 11.45 lakh candidates qualified.
Upon the announcement of the NEET result, qualified candidates will be able to participate in the centralised counselling, conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for the 15 per cent All India Quota seats and 85 per cent state quota seats by respective state authorities.

16 students from remote villages in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli and Melghat have cleared the NEET UG 2023. These candidates from the Vidarbha region were part of 30 students who were given free coaching for two years by ‘Lift For Upliftment' (LFU), an organisation founded by students and alumni of B J Medical College in Pune.The students from Gadchiroli and Melghat – areas often associated with Naxalism and poor social indicators – were taught by doctors and those pursuing their studies at the Pune medical college. A total of 131,008 students qualified NEET UG 2023 in Maharashtra. It stands second among the state with the highest number of qualified students. In the violence-affected Manipur, 4556 students qualified for the NEET UG 2023. A total of 8777 registered for the exam of which 7736 appeared. The exam was postponed due to the condition of the state. NTA conducted the exam for centres in Manipur on June 6.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will conduct the Counselling for 15 per cent All India Quota Seats, Deemed Universities, Central Universities, Seats of ESIC and AFMC, BHU and AMU. Candidates may visit the website mcc.nic.in for further information. A total of 11,45,976 students cleared the NEET UG 2023, out of which 3,12,405 candidates belonged to General and 98,322 to EWS category. Among OBC candidates, the number of candidates who cleared the exam were 5,25,194. In the SC category, 1,53,674 candidates cleared the exam and 56,381 cleared the exam in ST category.
This year, most number of students attempted the paper in English. A total of 16,72,914 students attempted the paper in English. It was followed by Hindi with 2,76,180 students opting to give the paper in Hindi. Gujarati medium secured the third spot with 53,027 attempting the paper in Gujarati.
This year, the NTA excluded two factors from last year’s formula. In 2022, it used the following nine factors to assign each candidate a unique rank in case two or more obtained equal marks/percentile scores. Read more

This time, the cut-offs have increased in comparison to 2022. In the case of general candidates from 138 in 2021, 117 in 2022 and 137 in 2023, and from 108 in 2021, 93 in 2022 to 107 in 2023 in the case SC, ST and OBC candidates.
"The NTA has provided all India rank to the candidates and the admitting authorities will draw merit list based on the ranks for the seats of MBBS and BDS falling under their jurisdiction. When candidates apply to their state, they will mention their category as per the state category list. State counselling authorities will accordingly make their merit list. The number of students appearing for the NEET UG exam in regional language has not increased a lot. A total of 134550 students had appeared for the medical entrance exam via regional language in 2019 and the number increased to 137492 in 2022. While the number had increased from 120616 in 2021, whether or not the number increased this year is yet to be seen.

Additionally, even the number of exam centres has increased from 2546 in 2019 to 4097 in 2023.
Last year, the NEET scorecard was also available on the government’s digital platform for storage and verification of documents, DigiLocker. One had to register themselves to access the NEET UG result 2023 and NEET scorecard 2023.
