This plea was first heard on Friday (February 24) by a bench of justices S R Bhat and Dipankar Datta who had asked for clarifications from the NBE and declared that it was not passing any order either way. The ASG was asked to come out with a solution of the issue raised by the petitioners. “For those who are waiting for this (examination), it is really a mental torture,” the bench observed, adding, “When we postpone a judicial exam, there is agony for the candidates who are preparing for it. Supreme Court has dismissed the petition seeking to postpone NEET PG 2023 exam. The entrance exam will be conducted as per the original schedule, i.e. March 5.
"In the first window, nearly two lakh three thousand students applied. Only six thousand students applied after the internship deadline was extended. So, the demand is only by a minority," ASG Aishwarya Bhati told Supreme Court.

Justice S Ravindra Bhat has asked Sankaranarayanan why do the candidates want an extension now, when they were content with the exam date earlier, when the candidates had requested for extension of internship cut-off date. "When I asked you wanted postponement, you said you did not want. Some of them you represent were content with the timeline as it was," he said, according to LiveLaw.
Sankaranarayanan also submitted a document that shows that the previous practice in the past is that the gap between the internship deadline and the exam is never more than two months.
Senior Adv Gopal Shankaranarayanan has submitted an annual report of '17-18. "Please come to the last page, it shows State wise details of MBBS seats, so maximum decide to sit for PG," Shankaranarayanan said, according to Bar and Bench.
Shankaranarayanan has claimed that over 2 lakh students registered for the NEET PG exam, out of which nearly 1.3 lakh students are those who completed their graduation in previous years and who could not make it through PG in the previous terms.

The Union Health Ministry has decided the internship cut-off date to be August 11. This means, NEET PG 2023 aspirants have time till August 11 to complete their mandatory one-year internship.
NEET PG is likely to be discontinued from next year, with the government implementing a new, two-part exit test for all MBBS students (NeXT), which will be a basis for their registration as doctors and admissions for further PG courses. However, an official notification on the same is still pending.
After representations from various State Government/Universities, the cut-off date of internship was extended to 11.08.2023 and surprisingly only 5000 additional applications were received which constitutes about 2% of the total candidates who are going to take exam. Postponing the exam will create problem for 98% of the students who have been studying/preparing for NEET PG exam and have represented to not to postpone the date of examination," the NBE has claimed in a speaking order.
NBE is claiming that postponing the exam will cause problems for the registered candidates, as well as the hosting authorities.

The NBE sent personal text messages to NEET PG 2023 aspirants today, informing them that the admit cards are ready for download. However, candidates are alleging that as soon as they download the hall tickets, there is no content available in the PDF.
The NEET PG 2023 aspirants have claimed that the time difference between the exam and the counselling dates si too long, which could be a wastage of time for candidates as they will be unable to even get a job for those limited months.
“The NEET PG aspirants will not be able to apply for jobs during this time as there is a dearth of jobs in the medical industry and people usually don’t offer jobs for such short time periods. Due to this, the few months between the exam and counselling will be a complete waste for students.
