These states have ordered school closure due to heavy rain

The incessant rains have caused schools to shut in many states. All schools in Delhi and adjoining NCR cities including Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad are closed today.

Due to the incessant rains, schools in many states have closed down. In some, the authority has ordered conduct of the online classes. Here is a complete list:

Delhi- NCR

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that all heads of schools have been sent a notice regarding closure of schools. “In view of the torrential rains since Friday and the Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is directed that all government and private schools shall remain closed for students on July 10 (Monday). Students must be informed, well in advance, about the holiday so that they do not venture out,” a circular from Directorate of Education (DoE) said. While schools have been closed for students, teachers have been directed to attend schools as usual.

The Gurugram administration also announced closure of schools due to torrential rains and inundated roads. “All Government and Private Schools (including Play schools etc.) falling in Gurugram district are hereby directed to remain closed tomorrow i.e. on 10th July in larger public interest and for safety and security of the students,” District Collector and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority Nishant Kumar Yadav said in an order. The administrative authority has also advised corporate houses to announce work from home.

District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Manish Kumar Verma also announced the same through the official Twitter handle of DM.

“Keeping in view the heavy rains in the district, on July 10, classes from 1 to 12 in all schools of all the boards of the district will remain closed.”

Punjab and Haryana

Heavy downpour in several parts of Punjab and Haryana have caused severe waterlogging. The Army was also put on alert. Punjab police department have made arrangements to deal with any kind of exigency arising out of potential floods. The Punjab government has announced holidays in all government, private and aided schools till January 13.

The Punjab School Education Board, Mohali has postponed the re-appear examination for Class 5 and 8 due to the incessant rains. The exams have been postponed until further notice. The Board was supposed to hold the Environmental education re-peer exam for Class 5 and Science exam for Class 8 today.

Himachal Pradesh

According to the Himachal Pradesh emergency operation centre, 14 major landslides and 13 flash floods have been reported till now. The government has ordered all state government schools and colleges to remain shut for two days— today (July 10) and Tuesday (July 11).

Torrential rains have claimed nearly 19 lives till now across all states including— Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.
