JEE Main 2025: The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducts a special round of counselling for JEE aspirants from the Northeast who may not have secured a seat through the initial JoSAA/CSAB counselling rounds for admission to NIT+ institutions. Moreover, understanding the “unique challenges” students face, CSAB 2025 will also conduct CSAB-NEUT (Northeastern states and some of the Union Territories) rounds to allocate seats of many AICTE approved institutes/ universities across India.
The CSAB has emphasised its commitment to fostering academic potential in the Northeast by encouraging eligible students to register for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2025. Registration for Session 2 of the exam opens on January 31 and will close on February 24. Students can find detailed instructions and eligibility criteria on the official JEE Main website (jeemain.nta.nic.in/information-bulletin/).
In 2025, around 2,000 seats will be available under the state quota for National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) for students belonging to the north-eastern region.
The NIT+ system comprises 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, three schools of planning and architecture (SPAs), 37 government-funded technical institutes (GFTIs) and one Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur.
Of the total seats in NITs, 50% are reserved for the state quota, ensuring local students have opportunities to pursue higher education in their home states. The remaining 50% of seats fall under the other state quota, enabling North-Eastern students to apply to institutions outside their states. Additionally, around 740 seats will be available nationwide under the NEUT category, designed specifically for students from Northeastern states and Union Territories.
CSAB-2025 has introduced several tailored initiatives to address the unique challenges faced by students from the Northeast:
CSAB-NEUT Round: This dedicated counselling round aims to allocate seats in AICTE-approved institutions across India for students from North-Eastern states and Union Territories, under the Reservation of Seats in Degree-Level Technical Courses scheme.
CSAB Special Round: Students who may not secure a seat during the initial counselling rounds will have an additional opportunity to gain admission to NIT+ institutions.
NITs including NIT Agartala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Silchar are present in the NE region and IIITs like Guwahati, Manipur and Agartala
GFTIs: Assam University (Silchar), Mizoram University (Aizawl), School of Engineering (Tezpur University), Central Institute of Technology (Kokrajhar), North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (Itanagar), North-Eastern Hill University (Shillong)
The institutions, collectively known as the NIT+ system, are known for their technical education, industry connections, and infrastructure, which seeks to equip graduates with the skills needed to secure promising career opportunities, a statement issued in this regard said. These participating institutes offer a wide range of undergraduate courses in engineering and architecture, including:
– Traditional Fields: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering
– Emerging Fields: Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics and Automation, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics, Energy Engineering, Food Technology,
– Specialised Fields: Aerospace Engineering. Biotechnology, Naval Architecture, Petroleum Engineering. Industrial Engineering and Management, Automobile Engineering, Biomedical Engineering. Instrumentation and Control Engineering.
Students who qualify JEE Main can participate in the counselling process through the official websites – csab.nic.in and josaa.nic.in – where they will find detailed instructions for each step, including registration, document verification, preference selection, counselling schedules, and seat allotment. By carefully following these instructions, candidates can easily navigate the counselling process. JoSAA 2025 is jointly organised by IIT Kanpur and NIT Rourkela. CSAB 2025 is led by NIT Rourkela.
