The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is launching the IIT Madras Research Foundation. The foundation seeks to drive the institute’s global aspirations.
The IIT Madras Research Foundation will be a catalyst for start-ups coming out of the institute’s tech ecosystem landscape to access the global markets, capital, funding for research and innovation, scaling its academic master’s and doctoral programmes through strategic university collaborations as well as industry partnerships.
According to an institute statement, the research foundation is being set up with a vision to expand IIT Madras’ global footprint, drive growth in innovation and entrepreneurship and increase engagement with industry and R&D partnerships.
“IIT Madras has an extraordinarily rich portfolio of Research and Innovation landscape in the international markets, including 161 Active Patents in the US,” it added.
Thirumalai Madhavnarayan, a senior business management and technology professional, is appointed as the first CEO of IIT Madras Research Foundation. He is an industry veteran with over 37 years of diverse multi-geo experience in strategising, building, transforming, and scaling businesses for global technology multinationals such as Intel, HP, Dell, Samsung and Epson, among others, the institute said.
