Debashis Chatterjee, Director of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) and Airports Authority of India (AAI), Calicut, Director Seshadrivasam Suresh inaugurated a reading lounge, named “Gyan Pankh” at the Calicut International Airport on April 22.
The reading lounge is the joint initiative of IIM Kozhikode and AAI Calicut to boost the city’s image, as the only city in India to have UNESCO’s ‘City of Literature’ tag. The reading lounge has a collection of around 350 books from various categories and genres and in multiple languages.
According to Dr Appasaheb Naikal, Librarian, IIM Kozhikode, this facility will be accessible 24X7 and guided by ‘10 Commandments’ listed in the reading space and the collection is expected to upgrade to 500 books in the coming weeks.
Disclosing the thought behind ‘Gyan Pankh’, which translates to ‘Wings of Knowledge, professor Debashis Chatterjee said, “Kozhikode city has a rich literature history and the recent UNESCO City of Literature tag highlights how this quintessential town values reading and creating the wealth of wisdom. Reading books enhances critical thinking skills and gives wings to the next big ideas. IIM Kozhikode and AAI want to inspire the next generation of readers to discover the richness of knowledge through this unique initiative.”
Gyan Pankh will be shifted to a bigger SHA once it’s ready, additionally, it is being executed by IIM Kozhikode Library and Information Centre (LIC), on behalf of the premium B-School.
The lounge also has accessible shelves, comfortable low-height cushioned chairs and tables, along with booked handpicked for toddlers, young adults to senior citizens to provide them with a light reading experience.
