Jigeesha Bhargavi from Patna scored 99.2 per cent in her Class 12 board exam. Bharagavi was a humanities student and now after getting a score of 800 in the CUET 2022, she is studying BA Political Science (Hons) from Hindu College, Delhi University. Bharagavi shares her CUET preparation journey with indianexpress.com.
Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2023 will be held between May 21 and May 31 and the window for online registration opened on February 9 and will close on March 12. The entrance test for admission to about 168 universities was made compulsory last year.
As CUET is entirely NCERT-based, I had no trouble transitioning from descriptive questions in board exams to multiple-choice ones in CUET. The gap doesn’t appear as you are invariably familiar with all the names, dates, and other factual information as a result of board preparation. Once you’ve taken a descriptive exam, an MCQ will be a piece of cake.
CUET was simple for me as I prepared for pre-boards and internal assessments. As soon as we received CUET confirmation in January, my peers rushed to prepare for CUET, leaving behind Class 12. On the other hand, I kept my calm and prepared for board exams, keeping CUET out of my mind.
I began CUET preparation after my boards when I had about a month gap. CUET preparation involved only the revision of the class 12 syllabus. The crux is that you have to pick facts from your theory board exam and present it in MCQs.
It was clearly mentioned in the notification that CUET will be NCERT based which made it very easy for me because I was already reading it for my class 12. Following NCERT by heart is the key to crack the entrance test.
Initially, I was in a dilemma when CUET was unexpectedly announced for us as an entrance exam but then when I sat down with the syllabus and notifications by NTA, I found it easy and simple.
For history, political science, and sociology NCERT was more than enough. I studied English entirely from YouTube, so I didn’t purchase any books for English. For the general test, which includes general knowledge and reasoning, I referred to the CUET UG book from Arihant publication.
My advice is that CUET is far more simple than your imagination, and even the English paper. For English, go over a lot of vocabulary and phrase questions, such as idioms. Many students believe that because they have not read novels, they won’t be able to pass the English exam, but this is not the case. Second, prepare for your board exam because once you finish your Class 12 exam, you will be completely prepared for the CUET. Then you simply need to review the syllabus.
