The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today conducted the Class 12 English exam which was rated as moderate by students. However, experts have claimed that a few chapters were missing from the question paper.
Experts and students have claimed that while the CBSE paper followed the syllabus and format, it still missed a few Literature chapters. “Some chapters had both 2 marks (short answer) and 5 marks (long answer) questions. Short Writing Task focused only on Formal Invitation and Formal Reply across all sets, excluding informal options,” said Bincy Ciby from the Billabong High International School, Malad (Mumbai).
In the reading section, students and experts claimed that the first passage had tricky questions which “consumed more time than usual”. However, the second passage was rated as easy. In the writing skills section, the questions were easily comprehensible with sufficient clues to build up the content. “There were inference based questions in the paper which needed a thorough study of the chapters and logical reasoning,” said Vijaya Chauhan from Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir.
“This year, students found the MCQ questions to be easier. However, other parts of the question paper (especially in the reading and literature section) were observed to be slightly lengthy,” said Sangeeta Rai from Global Indian International School, Ahmedabad.
Students who did a thorough reading of the NCERT books were able to answer the CBSE English paper well. Overall, the paper maintained a moderate level with a balanced mix of understanding, critical thinking, and analysis questions in all three sections, including straightforward questions in unseen passages and literature, experts opined.
CBSE conducted the Class 12 English exam today from 10:30 am till 1:30 pm. The CBSE board Class 12 exams are being conducted from February 15 to April 2, 2024.
