Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a new initiative to support students’ needs. The university has started a student counselling initiative to assist students in identifying their strengths, overcoming obstacles, and setting themselves on a path to success.

As part of the student well-being initiative, the programme features 15 counselors assigned across various faculties. The University has trained 15 Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Fellows with backgrounds in psychology as counselors. These fellows have all completed their formal education in psychology at the University, according to a statement issued by the university.

Their primary role will be to act as change agents, fostering positivity and engagement among students through counselling methods and creative approaches.

This initiative by BHU comes at a time when the country is implementing the National Education Policy 2020.

Originally introduced as a pilot project at Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the university’s women’s college, two years ago, the initiative has proven effective in helping students tackle life challenges and succeed both academically and personally. With its success, the initiative has now been expanded university-wide to support students from all faculties, the BHU statement said.
