Karnataka BJP strongman Jagadish Shettar, who has quit as MLA, is in talks with the Congress and could join it soon. Sources say senior Karnataka Congress leaders M B Patil and Shamanur Shivashankarappa are in touch with him. The two, who seem to have convinced Shettar to switch sides, have close ties with him.
One of Shivashankarappa’s granddaughters is married to Shettar’s son. And his other granddaughter got engaged to Patil’s eldest son some months ago.
Sholay & Chhole
British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis, who is learning Hindi, had asked for movie recommendations to brush up his Hindi. Over the weekend, he watched Sholay, while eating “chhole” and beer. After the movie, he even posted screenshots and a review of the iconic blockbuster, which included Gabbar Singh. He said: “Every classic needs a great badmash”.
Iftar Tradition
Ever since the BJP took reins at the Centre in 2014, iftar parties, which were keenly tracked at one point to gauge political equations, have become a thing of the past. RSS leader Indresh Kumar, however, appears to be an exception among faces of the ruling establishment. Recently, Kumar attended an iftar event at the India Islamic Cultural Centre in Delhi. A patron of the Rashtriya Muslim Manch, Kumar had last year announced that the organisation will hold community iftars across the country. Earlier this month, he attended another iftar organised by the All India Arab Friendship Forum at Hyderabad.
