As the Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud prepares to demit office, he left a parting gift for lawyers and judges — eight more working days annually. Alongside rechristening Vacation Judges as simply “Judges” and renaming the Supreme Court’s summer vacation to “partial Court working days”, an amendment to the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, has reduced the maximum number of holidays from 103 to 95 (excluding Sundays). At the inaugural Loksatta Annual Lecture recently, the CJI had defended long vacations, stating “judges are not gallivanting or goofing off during vacations. They are deeply committed to their work, even on weekends, often attending functions, visiting high courts, or engaging in legal-aid work.”

Apart from Mokeri, Priyanka also faces BJP candidate Navya Haridas.
One of the DIG-rank officers of AGMUT-cadre received a WhatsApp call on his government allotted number the other day and he picked the call as the profile picture of the caller showed that of his senior, a DIG-rank officer of Punjab cadre. He greeted his senior, but got shocked when the caller told him that he is an ‘Inspector’ from Delhi’s Rohini police station and he got his number from his son who is one of the four people he had arrested. Sensing something suspicious, the officer started enquiring the caller about his whereabouts, and the latter disconnected the call. The officer again called at the same number, but nobody picked the call.
