AMID PROTESTS against the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress is leaving nothing to chance for its meeting with the Election Commission on Friday, though suspense looms over whether the 10-member delegation, led by Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, will manage to meet the poll watchdog. Sources said the party’s top leadership instructed its MPs, who are part of the delegation, to land in Delhi a day in advance and reach the EC office well before the meeting is scheduled to ensure they get ample time to put across their objections.

Post-poll Fight

The Congress review meeting over the Bihar poll debacle saw some dramatic scenes Thursday when two candidates almost came to blows following an argument. Sources said before the party high command reached the meeting hall, two candidates—Sanjeev Singh, who lost from Vaishali, and Jitendra Kumar, who failed to win Purnea—had a verbal altercation, with Singh yelling at Kumar: “Baahar milo, goli maar dunga (Meet me outside, and I will shoot you).” The argument started after Kumar teased Singh over something. A group of leaders present at the meeting had to separate the two candidates and pacify them before senior leaders arrived for the meeting.
