After being elected to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and resigning from the Union Cabinet, former Minister of State for Jal Shakti Prahlad Singh Patel was quick to move out of his ministerial bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi. Former ministers have a month after leaving office to vacate their official bungalows, but they drag on even beyond that. Patel’s resignation was accepted by the President on December 7. He is learnt to have moved into the Madhya Pradesh Bhawan while he was in Delhi earlier this week.

On Back Seat

As Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders met again on Thursday to discuss seat sharing in Lok Sabha polls, it became clearer that the grand old party would have to cut down its expectations to a realistic level. The Congress on Wednesday had given a list to the SP, classifying the 80 LS seats in Uttar Pradesh into three categories — priority A, B and C. Sources said the list was drawn up by Congress’s state unit chief Ajay Rai and AICC in-charge Avinash Pande. The SP leaders, it is learnt, have told the Congress, which has one MP and two MLAs in the state, that the talks will be on their terms. While Rai and Pande seem to be in a mood to do some hard bargain, the members of the Congress alliance committee have taken a more realistic approach.Sources said both the parties hope to conclude the seat-sharing talks in a week.

Deepening Bond

Indian-American author and proponent of alternative medicine Deepak Chopra earlier this week mailed a signed copy of his latest book ‘Quantum Body’ to AIIMS Delhi director M Srinivas. An alumnus of the institute, Chopra will also donate a collection of his nearly 100 books to the institute. This is the latest in line of the deepening collaboration between the author and the premiere medical institution; last year, an MoU was signed between the two to study various complementary therapies.
