The five-member committee that prepared the report and draft Bill on Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand submitted its report to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday. The 780-page report in four volumes has some unique features, sources said. The Hindi version of the report does not have a single word of English or Urdu, and the illustration of the ‘Goddess of Justice’ on the cover page is not blindfolded. “It is to show that justice will be granted equally to everyone,” sources said.

Special Emphasis

While moving amendments to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar laid special emphasis on the name of CPIM member John Brittas. When LoP Mallikarjun Kharge asked why so much stress was on Brittas’ name, Dhankhar responded saying “because he is enormously talented”. The Chairman also said the LoP was also his [Brittas’] ‘vakeel’, pointing out that Kharge was among those who advocated revoking suspension of 11 MPs, including that of Brittas.
