During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s marathon two-hour speech in Rajya Sabha, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju was seen taking brisk walks up to Home Minister Amit Shah and those from key NDA partners, including NCP’s Praful Patel and JD(U)’s Lalan Singh, apparently to discuss strategy to counter the Opposition’s narrative of not being allowed to speak. What also caught the attention of one and all was Rijiju walking barefoot in the hall for his short parleys with the leaders.
In contrast to the heated exchanges between the Opposition and ruling alliance members inside Parliament, there was some warmth and camaraderie outside. At Krishi Bhawan, when Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh came to meet Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, George Kurian, MoS for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan greeted him in the corridor. Paswan also requested Suresh to have a round of his office, which he did. After that, Paswan guided Suresh towards Kurian’s room nearby.
The Delhi unit leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party were taken by surprise when Samajwadi Party’s Lok Sabha member R K Chaudhary turned up at their office on Wednesday. Chaudhary was one of the founding members of the BSP and had worked with Kanshi Ram. Sources close to him said that he visited the BSP office only to refresh his memories linked with the premises. However, Chaudhary left the place early as BSP leaders appeared slightly uncomfortable, fearing “reaction” from party chief Mayawati, it is learnt.
