A nurse working at a private hospital was found hanging inside her residential apartment at Shapar-Veraval, on the outskirts of Rajkot city, on Sunday. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Kajal Kotadiya (26), who worked as a staff nurse at the hospital in Mavdi and stayed with her parents.

The incident came to light after neighbours noted foul smell emanating from Kotadiya’s apartment and alerted her parents, who had gone to the family’s native Vadala village in Gir Somnath district.

Sub-Inspector R K Gohil, in charge of Shapar-Veraval police station, said on Monday: “Her parents had gone to the family’s native village to celebrate Diwali. They returned to Shapar-Veraval after being alerted by the neighbours. When the parents opened the doors, they found her hanging from the ceiling.”

“Forensic experts concluded that Kotadiya had died three days before she was found hanging and opined that the primary cause of death was hanging,” the officer added.

Shapar-Veraval police has registered a case of accidental death on the basis of information provided by Kotadiya’s father Bhikhubhai Kotadiya.

Gohil said no suicide note has been recovered. “We are investigating the reasons for her taking the extreme step,” the officer added.
