The district and sessions court of Devbhumi Dwarka has awarded life imprisonment to a 42-year-old man after finding him guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in Khambhalia.
The court pronounced its verdict on Monday and detailed judgement was made available on Wednesday.
According to prosecution’s case, the man called the victim — a Dalit, to his residence under the pretext of cleaning a school on November 24, 2020, but dragged her in to a room and forced himself on her.
Relying on the testimony of the victim, the court pronounced the man guilty and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment under IPC section 376 (rape) and life imprisonment under section 3(2)(5) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
