A 26-year-old woman working for an IT major in Pune was found dead in a hotel room in the Hinjewadi area with a gunshot wound to her head in the early hours of Sunday. The police have detained a man, who is suspected to have murdered her, while he was trying to flee to Mumbai, officers said. The deceased woman was working with Infosys at the company’s Pune office, an officer said.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police said the deceased, identified as Vandana Dwivedi, was found dead with a gunshot wound in the room of a hotel located in the Laxmi Nagar area. Preliminary investigation indicated that she had come to the hotel with a man on Saturday evening.
A senior officer from Pimpri Chinchwad police said, “Initial probe suggests that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship and there was an ongoing dispute between them. The suspect, identified as Rishabh Nigam, is believed to have murdered her by shooting her in the head. He had fled after the incident.”
“After receiving information, we launched a manhunt and the suspect who was trying to flee to Mumbai was intercepted and placed under detention. Further probe is on,” the officer said, adding, “Investigation has revealed that the woman was an employee of a multinational IT company.”
