Three people were booked for attempt to murder after one of them struck a biker with an Audi car following a heated exchange of words over a road rage incident and drove for nearly three kilometres with the biker on the car’s bonnet.
The incident occurred near KTC showroom in Akurdi around 9.40pm on December 1. Police have arrested the three accused, identified as Kamlesh Patil (23), who works at his family’s cloth trading business, and his two friends Hemant Mhasalkar (26) and Prathmesh Darade (22). The biker has been identified as Jacob Mathew Zakaria (23), a Nigdi resident who works for a private company who was riding his bike with his friend Aniket on the pillion on the day of the incident.
“Initial probe suggests that the Audi car’s mirror brushed with the bike’s handle. The complainant confronted the Audi driver at the next traffic stop. An argument ensued between the accused driver and his two friends and the biker and his friend. There was a heated exchange of words and physical altercation. Zakaria stood on the way of the car, insisting that the police be called to the location. At this point, the Audi driver struck Zakaria with the car and due to the impact, he fell on the bonnet,” said an officer from Nigdi police station.
“With the complainant clinging to the bonnet, Patil drove his Audi from Akurdi railway station area to Bijlinagar vila Mangal Chowk, for a distance of close to three kilometres. At Bijlinagar, Patil stopped the car for a woman passenger in the car to get out when Zakaria climbed down and stepped aside. Patil and his two friends fled. The complainant later approached us and filed a complaint. We have arrested the trio and have charged them with attempt to murder, along with voluntarily causing hurt,” added the police officer.
