The faculty at the Dr Balasaheb Vikhe Patil Rural Medical College run by Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences expressed shock over the demise of the 30-year-old postgraduate student, who was found dead in his hostel room.
Describing Dr Vinod Kumar Goud as a very good student, Dr Satish Mahajan, dean of the medical college, told The Indian Express, “This is an unfortunate incident and we are looking into the matter.”
“We are so shocked. All our professors are so disturbed by this incident and I cannot describe our state of mind,” he added.
Dr Mahajan said it was understandable that there were so many angry posts on social media. He also admitted that their medical college was attached to the 1,275 bed Pravara hospital and it can be demanding.
“Daily our gynaecology department attends to at least a minimum of 25 to maximum of 50 deliveries and the load is also then borne by the paediatric department that has to tend to the newborns. Work pressure does build up at times but there have been no complaints from students. We also understand the situation and communicate nicely with our students,” Dr Mahajan added.
‘We demand fair probe’
Meanwhile, Dr Deepak Kavhar, state convenor of Central – Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors told The Indian Express that they have acknowledged the efforts taken by the Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences following the deeply tragic incident involving Dr Vinod Kumar Goud.
“Your prompt attention and sensitivity towards the matter are commendable and reflect a commitment to the well-being of the academic community,” an official statement was released by the Central MARD unit.
However, student activists have said that while these efforts were commendable they wanted a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation.
“It is imperative to identify the root causes behind this unfortunate loss and to ensure that strict accountability measures are implemented. Such action will not only provide justice but also strengthen preventive mechanisms to safeguard the welfare of future resident doctors and students,” Dr Sachin Patil, president of Central MARD’s state unit said.
The MARD office bearers said that they were in complete solidarity with the affected family, colleagues and entire Pravara community during this difficult time
