Watch: Pune police teach school bus driver a lesson after he attacks pickup van in road-rage incident

A school bus negligently driven by Suraj Ramesh Patil brushed against a pickup van near the Magarpatta overbridge in Hadapsar, leading to arguments between the drivers of both vehicles, according to police.

Pune road rage: The Pune city police have arrested a man who hit a pickup van with the school bus he drove, smashed its windshield, and abused its driver near the Magarpatta overbridge in Hadapsar, with a video of the road-rage incident going viral on social media later.

The police said that Suraj Ramesh Patil, 32, a resident of Aniket Park at Shahu Nagar in Chinchwad, was arrested on Saturday on charges filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections including 281 (rash driving), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (assault), and 324(2) (causing hurt).

According to the police, Patil was driving the school bus negligently, and his vehicle brushed against a pickup van around 3 pm on Thursday, leading to arguments between the drivers of both vehicles. In a fit of anger, Patil allegedly assaulted the pickup van’s driver. He also said, “Note my vehicle’s number and go to any police chowki… My name is Suraj Patil.” He then allegedly broke the van’s windshield with a metal object.

After receiving information about the incident, a team from the Hadapsar police station launched a search for the bus driver and nabbed him from the Chinchwad area. The police also paraded Patil on his knees and conducted a spot panchanama of the accident scene on Saturday.

The Hadapsar police also released a “before and after” video showing how Patel attacked the pickup van and abused its driver, and how they paraded him at the same spot among the public. The video also showed the accused tendering an apology saying he would not commit such a mistake again.

The police said that Patil had come to Shevalwadi in the Hadapsar area for servicing his bus. There were no children in the bus when the incident took place.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde said Patil also gave compensation to the pickup van driver.
