Two injured after slab collapse during renovation of hotel building

Officials from the fire brigade said their control room received a call at 1.05 pm that two persons had been trapped after a slab collapsed during renovation work at a hotel on Dhole Patil Road.

Two persons were injured after the slab of a ceiling in an under-renovation hotel on Dhole Patil Road collapsed on Wednesday afternoon. The two workers were rescued by fire brigade and their condition was said to be stable.

Officials from the fire brigade said their control room received a call at 1.05 pm that two persons had been trapped after a slab collapsed during renovation work at a hotel on Dhole Patil Road. Fire tenders from Naidu and Kasba fire stations, along with a rescue van from fire brigade headquarters, were immediately dispatched.

On reaching the spot, firefighters assessed the seriousness of the situation and used rescue equipment such as spreaders, cutters, and air-lifting bags to move the slab and extricate the two trapped persons. Both were pulled out in a seriously injured condition and shifted to hospital by ambulance. Hospital authorities later informed the fire brigade officials that the condition of the injured was stable. The injured have been identified as Sachin Chavan and Krishna, both residents of Yerawada.

“Thanks to the timely response and the use of rescue tools by the Fire Brigade personnel, both trapped men were successfully rescued. We also received support from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Department, the building department, officials and staff of the Dhole Patil regional office, and the police,” said Devendra Potphode, Chief Fire Officer.

Fire officers Vijay Bhilare, Prabhakar Umratkar, and Prashant Gaykar, along with firefighters Raju Owhal, Aniket Owhal, Akash Dubale, Bhausaheb Chormale, Sandeep Randive, Bhalchandra Gawhankar, Ganesh More, Alpesh Konde, Nawanath Shedge, Ganesh Lonare, Suresh Pawar, Pratik Kumbhar, and Mayur Chavan took part in the operation.
