An offence has been registered against a traffic policeman and a traffic warden for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1,000 to remove a jammer that had been placed on a car that had been found in a no-parking area in the city.
A first information report (FIR) was lodged in this case on Thursday at Samarth police station against assistant police sub-inspector Kiran Rote (51) and traffic warden Anis Aga (48).
As per the press release issued by the Pune unit of the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB), both the accused are attached to the Samarth traffic division of the traffic control branch of the Pune city police.
Last month, the traffic cops placed a jammer on a car found in a no-parking area in the jurisdiction of Samarth traffic division. The accused traffic warden Anis Aga allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 from the car owner to remove the jammer. After negotiations, he agreed to remove the jammer by accepting a bribe of Rs 700.
Meanwhile, in the absence of Aga, the accused traffic cop Rote allegedly asked the car owner to hand over the bribe amount to him. The car owner filed a complaint about it at the ACB, Pune office.
ACB verified the complaint on October 11, 2024 and now an FIR for demanding a bribe has been lodged against Aga and Rote, said the press release issued today by deputy superintendent of police (ACB) Dayanand Gawade. Deputy superintendent of police Bharati More is investigating the case.
