Three persons were killed and seven more injured in two separate accidents on Pune-Solapur Highway, one near Bhigwan and another near Sortapwadi, on Sunday.
Two men in their early 20s were killed and three more were critically injured when their car, moving at a very high speed, turned on its side near Bhigwan on Sunday around 1 pm, police said. The mishap took place at Swami Chincholi village near Bhigwan, located around 100 kilometers from Pune City.
“Five people were travelling in the car. Primary information suggests that the driver lost control due to the speed and the vehicle turned on its side twice, critically injuring all the passengers,” said an officer. All five were rushed to a hospital in Indapur where two persons were pronounced dead. Three more were being treated for multiple serious injuries, officials said.
Police have identified the deceased as Vaibhav Jambhale (24) and Pratik Gawali (22). The injured included Shahrukh Khan Pathan (22) and Suraj Shelke and Rushikesh Yele (both 23). All five belonged to Indapur.
In the second incident, one person was killed and five more injured in an accident involving an auto rickshaw and an unidentified car at Sortapwadi, around 30 kilometers from Pune City. Officials said the rickshaw was hit by the car around 11.45 am. The deceased was a 50-year-old man travelling in the rickshaw. Four other passengers from the auto rickshaw also sustained injuries in the accident, officials said.
