Women’s rugby workshop from Aug 5

The Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) will be conducting a three-day workshop for women at the BMCC College grounds from August 5 to 7. The workshop,which is open to players as well as coaches,aims at improving the standard of women’s rugby as well as educating the fraternity in the country .

The workshop will focus on helping players understand the importance of the abridged version of the sport and other aspects including the playing structure,offensive patterns,defensive systems and the positional awareness of the game.

The workshop will be conducted by Indian Men’s Rugby Team captain Nasser Hussain,who is also a Rugby India Development Officer. The three-day workshop will also feature an Educational Coaching Clinic for those interested. The IRFU has conducted similar workshops in New Delhi,Srinagar,Kolkata,Bhubaneswar,Chennai,Bangalore and Mumbai in the past.

Inter IT badminton tournament inaugurated

The HBC-PDMBA Inter IT Badminton Team Championship Tournament was inaugurated by renowned badminton player and Olympian Nikhil Kanetkar at PDMBA Sports complex in Shivajinagar on Saturday. The tournament ends on August 7.

The first ever inter IT tournament will have all its matches,from quarter-final onwards,played under the supervision of the PDMBA officials. The Pune District Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA) is the co-organiser for the event,which carries a prize money of Rs 25000 and Rs 15000 for the winners and the runners up respectively.

The inaugural match (mixed doubles) was won by Swapnil Malpathak and Sanjeevani Mahajn of KPIT Cummins. They defeated Ashwin Gulati and Vinita Sathe of Infosys 15-5,15-10. Infosys,however,won the tie 2-1 by winning the next two matches.
