Fourteen-year-old Aarav Sancheti from Pune has become the youngest player to win the junior (U-19) title at the inaugural Heyball National Championship, held recently at the National Sports Club of India in Delhi.

Heyball, a cue sport similar to pool, was introduced in India with this tournament, which saw Aarav enter as the top seed. He defeated Karnataka’s Karan Seshadri 7-3 in the final after edging past A. Abdul Saif 7-6 in the semi-final. In the pre-quarterfinals, Aarav overcame Gujarat’s Mauviya Thakor 5-3.

Son of national-level snooker and billiards player Sachin Sancheti, Aarav has already carved a space for himself in cue sports. He is ranked No. 1 in India’s sub-junior snooker and billiards category and also holds the top state ranking in Maharashtra.

Training at Amanora Fern Club under coach Suri Suryanarayanan Nagarajan, Aarav balances his sporting career with academics as a Class 10 student under NIOS. He was part of the Indian squad at the IBSF World Under-17 and Under-21 Snooker Championships in Bahrain last year and also competed in the 2023 Under-17 World Championship in Riyadh
