Pimpri Chinchwad: Cyber criminal uses AI to harass woman with morphed photos, fake profile, probe launched

She asked the sender to reveal their real identity and asked that the fake profile be deleted. The suspect continued sending her harassing messages. When the complainant warned the sender that she would approach the police, the suspect sent her a photo which was a morphed image created with an AI tool with her face. The sender subsequently threatened that more morphed images would be created and circulated on social media. The suspect also sent several friend requests to people in the complainant’s friend list using a fake profile.

The in-charge Inspector of the police station who is investigating the case said, “We have launched a probe into the fake profile of the victim. Initial observations suggest that the morphed image of the complainant which was used by the fake Instagram account has been created using AI tools. The FIR was registered on Monday. We will seek assistance from the Cyber investigators of Pimpri Chinchwad police.”

Police have invoked Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 79 and 351 which pertain to insulting the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation.
