A 38-YEAR-OLD passenger who was caught allegedly smoking midair in the lavatory of an Indigo flight from Delhi to Pune was booked by Pune city police upon arrival.
A First Information Report in the case was registered at Vimantal police station under Pune city jurisdiction by a security executive of Indigo airlines posted at the Pune International Airport.
According to the FIR, the incident took place on an Indigo Delhi to Pune flight that landed at Pune Airport sometime after 1 am on Monday. The 38-year-old male passenger has been booked under section 25 of The Aircraft Rules, 1937 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 125 which pertains to ‘Act endangering life or personal safety of others.’
According to the FIR, the flight attendants detected smoke inside the lavatory around 12.30 am when the flight was midair. The crew subsequently recovered the parts of the smoked cigarette from the dustbin of the lavatory and also seized the lighter from the passenger.
Upon landing, the ground crew was informed and the passenger was handed over to the police. Officials said that the passenger is a resident of Okhla Vihar area of New Delhi.
“We have booked the passenger and have issued him a notice to be present before us for the investigation when summoned.” said an officer from the police station.
