The Pune division of Central Railway has decided to run a total of 1,052 special train services (up and down) between September 19 and December 4, 2025. These special services are expected to benefit over 15.23 lakh passengers, ensuring convenient and comfortable travel during the peak festive season.
According to Rajesh Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, as of October 23, 442 trips have already been completed, carrying 6.69 lakh passengers, while 610 trips are yet to be run, projected to serve another 8.54 lakh.
The rush is expected to peak between October 23 and 26 when 10 trains per day will be operated from Pune Division.
To cater to the heavy crowd, the division has expanded the holding area at Pune station to 21,500 sq ft, accommodating nearly 3,500 passengers with luggage. Initially designed for 6,000 sq ft, the area was enlarged due to the surge in festive travellers. All Bihar-bound trains have been assigned to Platform 1, which directly connects to this holding area for smoother passenger flow.
A total of 209 personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), and Home Guard, along with 30 ticket checking staff, have been deployed for crowd management. Regular announcements and queue formations are being implemented to ensure safe boarding.
State-wise, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh account for 77% of total passengers, reflecting high demand for north and east-bound travel. Rajasthan and Delhi routes are also witnessing steady patronage.
With real-time monitoring, additional unreserved coaches, and enhanced security coordination, officials said the Pune Division is committed to ensuring a safe, convenient, and comfortable festive travel experience for all passengers this Diwali season.
