Pune city police booked a 55-year-old man for allegedly having unnatural sex with a dog in Model Colony in Shivajinagar area. The accused was arrested, but later released on bail.

A businessman Sanjay Shinde (59), resident of Model Colony, lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at Chaturshringi police station, this week.

As stated in the FIR, a group of animal lovers, including the complainant Shinde and his friends Bhagyendra Chudasama, Sahil Karande and Rojer Joseph, provide food and medication to the animals like dogs and cats in Model Colony area.

Accordingly, on the morning of October 10, while they were feeding the animals, they found that one of the dogs near Mahale Market in Model Colony was missing for the last few days.

“We asked the people in the area about the dog. We came to know that a man had unnatural sex with the dog on the intervening night of September 22 and September 23. An eye witness had recorded the video of the incident. We managed to get that video and informed the police about it. We also shared the identity of the accused with the cops. Senior police inspector Uttam Bhajnawale and his team responded immediately and lodged an FIR against the accused,” said Bhagyendra Chudasama.

Assistant police inspector Aniket Pote of Chaturshringi police station confirmed that the accused was arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 325 (mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering useless any animal) and sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The accused is a resident of Wadarwadi. He was later released on bail, police said.

Chudasama said, “The incident was shocking. The dog’s health may have suffered badly. Unfortunately the law against such crimes is not stringent, due to which the accused was released on bail.”
