Maharashtra on Wednesday surpassed its previous best tally of single-day vaccination by administering 14.39 lakh doses against Covid-19 to beneficiaries.
Mumbai, on Wednesday, administered 1.84 lakh doses, the highest for the city in a single day. As many as 13,1757 or 71 per cent of the total vaccines were administered at 322 civic and state-run vaccination centres. The remaining 52,532 vaccines were administered at private hospitals.
With this, the number of fully vaccinated people in Mumbai now stands at 29,45,437. At least 75 per cent of the adult population (72,80,431) have received one dose of the vaccine.
Of the total fully vaccinated people in the city, 11.03 lakh are from the 45-59 age group and 7.37 lakh are in the 18-44 age group.
To get the maximum number of people immunised, the BMC continues to conduct special vaccination drives for lactating mothers, pregnant women, those who are bedridden and people without any identity proof.
Last month, it had kicked off ‘Vaccine on Wheels’ for the vulnerable and the underprivileged. Under the initiative, BMC reaches out to commercial sex workers, HIV-positive persons, migrant workers, labourers and street vendors/hawkers to administer them vaccines.
Dr Pradeep Vyas, state Additional Chief Secretary (Health), told The Indian Express: “A total of 14,39,809 vaccine doses were administered in the state on Wednesday.”
The previous best single-day records were achieved on August 21, when the state administered over 11 lakh doses, and on September 4, when over 12 lakh jabs were given.
More than 6.5 crore doses have been administered across the state till now, and 1.79 crore people have been fully vaccinated.
According to a report by the state health department, so far, more than 1.2 crore beneficiaries above the age of 45 have been fully vaccinated. More than 2.1 crore in the 18-44 age group have got the first dose, while 29 lakh of them are fully vaccinated with both doses.
