The Pune city police have seized a car owned by Lavani artiste Gautami Patil following a road accident that injured an autorickshaw driver near the Nawale bridge at Wadgaon Budruk in suburban Pune on September 30.
The police said that Patil was not booked in the case because she was not present in the car at the time of the accident. But her car driver has appeared for interrogation after being summoned in the case, the police added.
Patil’s car allegedly collided with an autorickshaw on the service road near Vishwas Hotel in Wadgaon Budruk around 5.15 am on September 30. The autorickshaw driver, Samaji Vitthal Margale, 44, was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Margale’s friend Yuvraj Sasthe, 32, who is also an autorickshaw driver and is the complainant in the case, shared the car’s number with the police. During the investigation, the police traced the car and identified the person who was driving it when the accident took place.
Margale’s family approached BJP leader and minister Chandrakant Patil seeking justice for him.
Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, told reporters that an FIR was registered after receiving an audiovisual complaint in the case. “The CCTV footage and statements of witnesses on the spot have revealed that only the driver was present in the car when the incident took place. The car has been seized. The driver was issued a notice, and he appeared before the police for investigation,” he said.
The police have also taken blood samples of the driver to determine if he had consumed alcohol at the time of the accident.
