Koregaon Bhima Commission of Inquiry requests Uddhav Thackeray to submit documents sought by Prakash Ambedkar

Koregaon Bhima Commission of Inquiry has now sent a letter of request to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray seeking documents in connection with an application filed by Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA).

Along with his application, Ambedkar had attached a news report, which stated that Pawar’s letter to Uddhav Thackeray demanded the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the Koregaon-Bhima violence and accused the Fadnavis government of protecting the conspirators.
Ambedkar had initially requested the commission to pass an order asking Pawar to submit a copy of this letter that had been given to Uddhav Thackeray along with related documents.
Accordingly, the commission made a request to Pawar to submit the letter and related documents. Earlier this week, Pawar informed the commission through his lawyer that he was not having a copy of the letter sought by Ambedkar.
So, on August 26, 2025, on behalf of Ambedkar, his advocate Kiran Kadam filed an application at the Commission, with a request to issue a notice to Uddhav Thackeray for producing the letter and related documents.
Then, Sumit Mullick, Member of the Koregaon Bhima Commission of Inquiry, sent a letter of request to Uddhav Thackeray on his address ‘Matoshree’ in Bandra, Mumbai, on August 28. Mullick has requested Uddhav Thackeray to submit the “documents in question” to the commission, either personally or through his attorney, on or before September 22, 2025.
The two-member commission headed by retired high court judge Justice J N Patel, was formed for probing the Koregaon Bhima violence of January 1, 2018, in which one person had died, and several others were left injured. The state government recently granted an extension to the commission till October 31, 2025.
