Inaugurating a model village exhibited by Symbiosis International University in Pune on Friday, Bhutan’s Minister of Home and Cultural Affairs Ugyen Dorji said India holding the G20 presidency for 2023 is a proud moment for all of South Asia including Bhutan.
The model village — Symbiosis Kala Gruha — displayed and promoted varied crafts, entrepreneurs, NGOs, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and foods of Maharashtra. The traditional Paithani sarees were also exhibited.
The minister explained Bhutan’s happiness policy of Gross National Happiness. Dorji also urged the G20 countries to protect the interests of smaller nations.
On Friday, the university organised a cultural evening. Along with the model village, the handmade bamboo basket craft from Pune’s Bohri Ali and Tambat (Copper) craft of Tambat Ali were among the main attractions. The students of Symbiosis School, Prabhat Road performed Leziim and Dhol Tasha, the traditional art form of Maharashtra.
On Saturday, the university will host the fourth Youth 20 (Y20) consultation meeting. Y20 is a forum for youth from all G20 member countries to hold dialogue over various issues.
