Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of surrounding himself with urban Naxals and anarchist forces.

Speaking at a rally for party candidate Gopichad Padalkar in Jat seat of Sangli district, Fadnavis said, “Rahul Gandhi is commencing his Maharashtra tour… He had undertaken Bharat Jodo Yatra. We thought it was a good move. It was actually a ‘Bharat Todo Yatra’. In the yatra, there were 200-250 organisations. Out of these, at least 100 organisations had subversive elements,” Fadnavis said.

Fadnavis said Rahul is surrounded by urban Naxals and anarchist forces, and has transformed into an ultra-Left ideologue and is less of a Congressman. “The copy of the Constitution he flaunts has a red cover, not the traditional blue,” he said.

Fadnavis said the Mahyauti government has taken all steps to alleviate the miseries of the drought-hit villagers of Jat taluka. “There are at least 64 villages which are always in the grip of drought. The irrigation projects we have launched in the area will ensure drought becomes a thing of the past for these villagers,” he said.

Fadnavis said the present and past generation may have suffered drought, but the future generation of Jat will not see drought. “When we were in power from 1995 to 1999, we launched several irrigation schemes in drought-hit areas. However, after that during successive Congress-NCP regimes, the schemes came to a standstill. After I became the chief minister, we earnestly took up irrigation projects in the drought-hit areas. Soon these areas will see better days,” he said.
