PUNE RURAL police have launched a probe after a dead foetus along with biomedical and surgical waste was found dumped in eleven jars at an open waste disposal site in Daund town of Pune district on Tuesday morning. Police are investigating if it was thrown by any medical facility in the region.

An FIR was registered on Tuesday afternoon at Daund police station under Pune Rural police against unidentified suspects.

“On Tuesday morning, we received a call after jars with medical waste were found in an open waste disposal site in Borawake Nagar of Daund town. There were 11 jars at the site. One of the jars had a human foetus while others had biomedical and surgical waste. It was very hazardously discarded openly at the site. We have registered a case against unidentified persons under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” said Inspector Gopal Pawar of Daund police station.

Police have invoked various BNS sections pertaining to miscarriage without consent and those pertaining to negligent acts likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life.

“We have reasons to believe the foetus, biomedical and surgical waste have come from medical facilities in the region. We will be speaking to possible witnesses who can tell us about activities near the waste disposal site and will also check footage from security cameras on approach roads to the location. We will also check if similar incidents have been reported on this or any other nearby sites in the recent past,” said an officer from Pune Rural police.
