Indicating a bigger role in politics for Maharashtra NCP (SP) president Jayant Patil, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar Wednesday said the beginning for shaping a progressive and developed state will begin from Islampur in Sangli.
“The state’s reigns were in the wrong hands and because of that many had to suffer. There is a need to bring the state out of damage and mould it on the lines as was envisioned by leaders such as Yashwantrao Chavan. I am confident that the state will progress under Patil,” said Pawar at the concluding rally of Shivswarajya yatra of NCP (SP) that covered over 7,000km and covered 76 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra.
The NCP (SP) chief said a state, which ranked at the top in terms of progress and development, is now trailing at the bottom. “Patil is touring the state, raising hopes of people for a progressive and developed state. As party chief, I have full confidence in Patil that he would take the state in the right direction,” he said.
Pawar said voters showed the Mahayuti their position in the Lok Sabha elections, reason why the government announced various schemes for public at the last minute. “We gave respect to women by giving political reservations and got them to top posts. Unfortunately, crimes against women are on the rise. It is high time to end their (Mahayuti) rule to ensure women are safe,” he added.
Making an oblique reference to Baba Siddique’s death, Jayant Patil said, ” The law and order has collapsed in the state as a former minister was recently killed and crimes against women have increased. We will create a legal system that will ensure security and safety of women, along with providing them with financial assistance,” he said.
