Shehzad Mirza aims to be in the Commonwealth Games squad
Basking in his success,national-level shooter Shehzad Mirza is now aiming at a berth in the Commonwealth Games squad. He bagged two bronze medals in the recently concluded 53rd National Shooting Championship in Jalandhar.
Mirza had won bronze in the 25-metre central fire pistol category at the state championships held in Mumbai in October, which gave him an entry into the National Championships.
With the participation of several competitive teams – Army,Navy,Air Force,BSF,CISF,ITBP,Railways and Air India – Mirzas individual scores of 548,563 and 527 in the three events helped the Maharashtra team win two medals.
He participated in three team events – standard pistol, centre fire pistol and the rapid fire pistol – and won two bronze medals in the last two events. He achieved this competing with Olympic, world and Commonwealth champions.
Just to qualify up to a level of shooters like Vijay Kumar and Samresh Jung is an achievement but to actually win a medal is something special, he said.
Although delighted with the victory,Mirza is still focusing on his eventual goal of making it to the Commonwealth games 2010. My ultimate aim is to make to the Commonwealth squad and I am working towards that, he said.
