Pune PMC infra pushProposed model of flyover and grade separator at Vishrantwadi and also site where railway bridge will come up

Concerned over the increasing traffic chaos amid rising number of vehicles on the roads, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) move to provide necessary infrastructure to resolve the issue has gained momentum.

The civic body has begun the process to build a flyover and a grade separator at the Ambedkar junction on the Alandi Road. It will also construct a railway overbridge (ROB) at Ghorpadi on the Pune Miraj railway route.

The flyover will connect the airport side to the Alandi Road side.

The estimated cost of both the infrastructure project is Rs 110 crore and the work would take two years to be completed from the day of work order, said officials of the PMC.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Sunil Tingre and former BJP legislator Jagdish Mulick of the Vadgaonsheri Assembly constituency had taken up the issue with the civic administration and the state government.

Accordingly, Guardian Minister of Pune district Ajit Pawar directed the PMC to work to provide better road infrastructure in order to resolve the issue of traffic chaos.

The flyover at the Mukundrao Ambedkar Junction in Vishrantwadi will be a two-lane unidirectional flyover of overall width of 8 metre and will have crash barriers on either side of around 300 metre — 150 metre on the airport road side and 75 metre on the Alandi Road side and a 66 metre bridge.

The two-lane unidirectional grade separator — from the Alandi side to the Pune side and from Alandi side to the Airport Road side — will be 9 metre wide. There will be a ramp of 140 metre on the Pune side, of 185 metre on the Alandi side and 150 metre on the Airport side. “It will provide a smooth movement of traffic moving from the entry and exit points of the main flyover,” said a civic officer.

Tingre said that the demand for a flyover at the Ambedkar Junction was a long-pending demand of the citizens as there is heavy traffic during the peak hours leading to traffic chaos.

“The existing three-side foot-over bridge will be removed from the junction and the steel structure would be used on other city roads to build foot over bridges,” he said.

According to the civic body, the railway overbridge will be built at Ghorpadi. The ROB will be 14-metre-wide and around 306-metre-long with 50-metre-bridge over the rail tracks, a 136-metre ramp towards Pune station and a 120-metre ramp on the Ghorpadi side. There will be crash barriers on both sides.
