Practically implementing the theoretical Work-Life balance laws of management,city-based Utpal Mazumdar, who is employed with Microsoft, has been successfully performing the act of seeking a balance between his professional life and personal interests. Apart from being a finance professional and an engineering graduate,Mazumdar is an experiential painter who loves to explore the energy that colours exhibit.
It was during my stint with HSBC that I was away from my family and evenings then meant a lot of free time. That was when I decided to pursue the long-forgotten passion of sketching and painting. And not only did HSBC appreciate my work, but many Europeans went ahead and purchased a number of my paintings, says Mazumdar.
Having started with sketching and watercolours,Mazumdar shifted the medium to Oil on Canvas in the recent past. I like watercolour as well, but what I like about oil on canvas is the durability of the painting. Of course, bright colours and the freedom to modify the painting are some of the added advantages that follow,he says.
Abstract is another aspect he closely associates himself with. Energy of colours appeals to me. Most of my abstract paintings are a visual representation of my thought that are triggered by things like a book that I have read, family discussions, places visited and so on, he smiles. Like many others, maintaining the balance between long and tiring work hours and art is a tedious task for Mazumdar too. An avid reader and literature enthusiast,Mazumdar thus follows his passion, mostly on weekends. I came across an Egyptian book that spoke about the importance of art and culture in the development of a nation. In the 19th century, most of the artists in Egypt shifted to technical fields simply because it was the need of the hour and a great source of income, thus causing damage to the art and culture that the country possessed for years. With reference to the same, the author says the development of a country depends upon the number of artists in it,simply because technology, though important, has limitations, unlike art, which is boundless.
