Extreme warriors defeated Chetak B 2-1 to advance to the next round of the Ajay Mathew Memorial Football tournament on Thursday. The match was played at the Range Hills football ground.
Extreme warriors dominated most of the match except for a nervy last ten minutes where Chetak put some good pressure on the opposition goal. Extreme Warriors started the game on the front foot and were passing the ball around well. They created some good moves right from the start and forced the keeper Rohit Shingade to make a number of saves. Shingade remained a tough nut to crack. They were, however, rewarded for their pressure in the fifteenth minute when they broke the deadlock through Tejas Pardeshi. After a shot from close range rebounded off the keeper,Pardeshi was there to slot the ball into the empty net. This was a big blow to the Chetak team and they sat back and defended for the rest of the half. Extreme Warriors continued to pepper the goal with attacks coming close on many occasions to extend their lead. Chetak managed to hang on,and the half ended 1-0.
Chetak started the second half on a bright note. Their midfield, which was non-existent in the first half, took charge of the game and distributed the ball to their wingers.
Ajinkya Khaire raised his game and passed the ball around well. Chetak looked good to score but at the other end Extreme Warriors were breaking on the counter attack. After a good move, the warrior midfield broke open the Chetak defence and put in a good pass to Neville Varghese in the 40 th . Varghese coolly slotted the ball passed the keeper and foiled any chance of a Chetak come back. The Chetak contingent, however, did not give up. They kept piling on the pressure and were rewarded for it soon after. A thunderous strike from Udayan Chabukswar from outside the box made it impossible for the keeper to save and Chetak got a goal back.
They received a lot of joy from left winger Mahendra, who kept putting in useful crosses. However, the Chetak strikers failed to convert any of their chances and the match ended 2-1.
