1,600 meritorious girls awarded scholarships for further studies

1,600 meritorious girls awarded scholarships for further studiesAround 1,300 of them are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses and will receive support from the Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) for their entire course.

Over 1,600 meritorious girls from financially weak backgrounds from different districts of Maharashtra, Hyderabad and Bengaluru were awarded scholarships to pursue further education, at an event here.

Around 1,300 of them are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses and will receive support from the Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) for their entire course. Over 260 of them are in seventh grade, whose education up to graduation will now be taken care of by the foundation. These girls are from Pune, Wardha, Amravati, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Bengalure, pursuing courses in science, engineering, nursing and pharmacy, among others.

LPF Chairperson Padma Shri Lila Poonawalla said, “Our merit-cum-need-based scholarship and skill-building programme is aimed at supporting these deserving girls to pursue their education.”

“A variety of skill-building, training programmes, industry-exposure visits, mentoring and counselling will be offered to make these girls confident, knowledgeable, skilled and employable,” she said.
